OMWBE Certification - How it Can Benefit Your Business

SPOKANE, Washington (July 27, 2010) – Inland Northwest Chapter of National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO-NW) to host Entrepreneurial Program Series with featured speaker Cathy V. Canorro, "OMWBE Certification - How it Can Benefit Your Business," August 12, 2010, at The Lincoln Center in Spokane, WA.

Federal and State certification programs are designed to help your business grow and access contracting opportunities. If you are a minority, woman, or person of social and economic disadvantage who owns and controls a small business, you’ll be interested in OMWBE’s certification programs. You will learn how certification can help your business access state and federal contracting/procurement opportunities; the eligibility requirements for certification with the state Minority & Women's Business Enterprise Program (M/WBE) and federal Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program (DBE); the steps involved in applying for certification as a M/WBE and DBE; and the available financial assistance through the Linked Deposit Program.

The featured speaker is Cathy V. Canorro, who has been employed with the State of Washington Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprises (OMWBE) since 1990. She currently manages OMWBE’s Agency Support and Supplier Diversity Division. This division provides technical assistance and reporting to 120 state agencies and educational institutions in the implementation of their supplier diversity plans to ensure qualified certified minority and women business enterprises have maximum practicable access to state contracting and procurement opportunities. She also serves as the Agency’s Small Business Liaison, an inter-agency committee devoted to providing Washington’s citizens with more direct access to the state’s licensing, regulatory and business development programs and services. She has previously managed OMWBE’s Certification and Business Development Divisions.

Canorro has been an active member of the Washington State Bar Association since 1975. She was previously an active member of the Alaska Bar Association. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, graduating summa cum laude, as well as Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, at Willamette University, Salem, Oregon.

For 15 years, members of the Inland Northwest Chapter of NAWBO have worked to propel women entrepreneurs into economic, social and political spheres of power worldwide. The Entrepreneurial Program Series is designed to help women in business meet the challenges of starting, running and maintaining a business in today’s marketplace, and the Series is presented during NAWBO-NW monthly chapter meetings.

NAWBO-NW meeting is open to all women business owners. Join us August 12, 2010 at The Lincoln Center in Spokane, WA. Networking begins at 5:00 pm, dinner and presentation to follow at 6:00 pm.
