NAWBO Members Present to Leadership Spokane

On December 4, the team of Alison Zecha and Lunell Haught will present a communication program to the 2010 Leadership Spokane Class. Lunell will use her expertise on dialogue and open space technology, and Alison will help participants understand their temperaments and tendencies based on the Myers Briggs assessment. Both will help the next generation of Spokane’s leaders.

This program offers a menu from which each of your employees can select the plan that best suits his/her needs. The options range from low-deductible comprehensive plans to higher-deductible plans that offer the opportunity to contribute to a tax advantaged health savings account. Directions

I-90 Eastbound: Take I-90 east to exit 291B, Sullivan Road. Exit south (right) onto Sullivan and go to Broadway, the second traffic light. Turn left onto Broadway and go approximately 1 mile to the first stop sign at Flora Road . Turn right and go one short block to Alki Avenue. There is a house made of river rock on the corner. Turn right onto Alki. 17416 is the 9th house on the right-hand side of the street.

I-90 Westbound: Take I-90 west to Exit 294, Country Vista Drive/Appleway. Turn Turn right onto Appleway and go 2 miles to the second traffic light at Sprague/Corbin Road. Greenacres Middle School is on the corner. Turn right on Corbin Road and to go the end, approximately 1/2 mile. Corbin Road ends at Alki Avenue. Turn left onto Alki. We are the 6th house on the left-hand side of the street.

17416 East Alki is a white rancher blue trim and a huge blue spruce tree in the front. A sign will be out front. Park along the street or in the driveway.

 

Solar Power - The Investment with Strong Returns

November 21, 2009 - Solar Power Class 9:00 A.M. – Noon. Solar Power - The Investment with Strong Returns. Learn the basics of Solar Power, and what is required to get started. The cost of the class is $35.00 and includes materials and handouts. All classes are limited to 20 people.

Diane Maehl Photography to Hold Grand Opening

Diane Maehl Photography has a new name and a new location! “I have opened the new studio at 168 S. Division (next to the Starbucks at 2nd & Division). I would like to invite everyone to our Open House on Friday, November 13, from 4-8pm.”

Diane is sharing the historic Pine Creek Dairy building with another new business, Urbanna Natural Spa & Salon, owned by her good friend, Linda Biel. The open house will be the grand opening celebration for both businesses.

Donna Graham Attends AAFCS Conference

Donna Graham recently attended the 2009 Leadership Conference sponsored by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) as the appointed representative of Washington State. In addition to her business, Donna's Seams to Fit, Graham is the Public Information Director for the state affiliate of AAFCS. While attending she was asked to co-chair the Business and Entrepreneurship Luncheon at the 2010 AAFCS Annual Conference in Cleveland next June.

(AAFCS is the only professional association dedicated to Family & Consumer Sciences (formerly Home Economics) professionals. AAFCS strives to improve the quality and standards of individual and family life by providing educational programs, influencing public policy, and through communication. AAFCS members work to empower individuals, strengthen families, and enable communities. Our members focus on an integrative approach to the reciprocal relationships among individuals, families and communities, as well as the environments in which they function.)

 

Chipman Moving and Storage Receives Award

Chipman Moving and Storage received the United Van Lines "Performance Excellence Award" for July 2008 through June 2009. The award is based on customer satisfaction with their service. Congratulations!

 

Learn the Nuts and Bolts about Government Contracting

Coralie Myers has the information on the Bridging Partnerships, Small Business Symposium that will take place in Pasco on April 28 and 29, 2010. For anyone interested in government contracting, this is where you actually get to meet the buyers and learn the nuts and bolts, according to Coralie. 2010 Washington State Small Business Awards

Deadline Quickly Approaching – November 13
The Seattle District SBA Office is seeking successful and inspiring entrepreneurs. Past award winners from NAWBO include Julie Prafke from Humanix, Linda Burgin of Chipman Moving and Storage, Inc. for Small Business Person of the Year, and Billie Moreland won as Small Business Journalist Champion. Coralie Myers received the SBA District Director’s award. Let’s have another winner this year.

Any individual or organization may submit nominations. A company, owner, or business advocate can also self-nominate. Award categories include:

  • Small Business Person of the Year
  • Small Business Exporter of the Year
  • SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year
  • Entrepreneurial Success Award
Small Business Champion Award recipients are individuals or organizations who have dedicated their professional skills or personal talents to supporting small businesses through advocacy and volunteer efforts. Each of the below awards has specific evaluation criteria. Nominees may or may not be small business owners. Categories include:
  • Financial Services Champion of the Year
  • Home-Based Business Champion of the Year
  • Minority Small Business Champion of the Year
  • Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year
  • Women in Business Champion of the Year
All nominations must be postmarked or hand delivered to the Seattle District, SBA Office no later than Friday, November 13, 2009.
